Ever since your Arcanine had turned into a human, the strange curse didn't take that canine stubbornness from him.

Not one bit.

Arcanine was as stubborn as ever, and if anything, he was even more obstinate as a human. As a Pokemon, Arcanine was large, strong, beloved by all and regarded as a legendary Pokemon, rarely defeated by any challenger out there.

As a human...well, he was still big and strong, but he lost some of that 'invincibility' that he had. Arcanine was still extremely loyal to you, and even as a Human he chose to stay with you-- he really cared for you. He just wanted to remain your robust and rugged companion. But humans were much more fragile and more prone to simple illnesses and problems than Pokemon, and Arcanine sure learned that. It used to be you that ran to him, your best Pokemon, for help, protection, comfort, you weren't as strong and capable.

But now, he needed the help.

Whether it be putting his shirt on the wrong way, hitting his funny bone and just not understanding the strange sensation, putting his shoes on the wrong feet, to not knowing how to ride a bike, Arcanine couldn't even use forks and spoons correctly the first time. However, even with the drawbacks of being a human, he was still as brave as ever for you.

Of course, you were always ready to help him. You never made him feel guilty for it, you never downgraded him...sometimes you teased him, just a little bit, but it was nothing serious! He was your partner, after all, your companion-- he had been with you ever since he was a Growlithe and you were a young Pokemon Trainer, just starting out in the Region. You thought nothing of lending your Arcanine an experienced human hand. Because of all those times he was there for you, you just simply thought it was the least you could do to pay him back.

Despite your willingness to help him, and even your insistence, Arcanine put up quite a fight accepting it. Sometimes he would even hide problems from you, even simple ones with simple answers. And because Arcanine still didn't understand the internet or modern technology (and refused to ask you to help him understand it!), he couldn't look up any answers. He just went without it-- he was determined to stay that same tough, dependable, powerful Pokemon...even as a PokeHuman.

But, today, there was something that was making it hard for him to do that. A toothache. It wasn't a completely foreign feeling to him, but human teeth had to be taken care of so much more than his past canine teeth, they weren't as hardy. And they hurt. And on this especially blustery day, every single time he opened his mouth the wind flew in and hit his tooth right where it hurt. The walk was mostly a silent walk, which was making you a little suspicious...and the way he kept swishing his tongue around in his mouth and poked at his cheeks certainly wasn't normal.

You glanced over at your Arcanine, who was currently licking his teeth in such a comically obvious manner that it makes you wonder if he ever forgets that he's not an actual Arcanine anymore. He catches your glance, and immediately straightens up.

He attempts to whistle innocently, but he never actually learned how to as a human...and the cool air just ends up hurting his teeth more, so he abruptly stops with a wince.

You raise a brow, and slowly take your eyes off of him when he waves to you and smiles...a closed mouth smile.

"It's such a beautiful day, huh, Arcanine?" You ask him, wanting him to finally speak sometime during this walk. Arcanine turns his head towards you, and with a flick of an ear and a moment of silence, he smiles that same closed smile and nods.

"What's up with him today?" You think to yourself with a little pout, thinking up another question. "Do you want to do something else after this?" You ask, looking at him expectantly. Before he can answer, you add, "We can go anywhere you want to."

Jeez. Arcanine was really hungry, actually...that fancy steakhouse that you never went to normally was sounding amazing just at that moment. And Arcanine liked it completely rare, so it wouldn't hurt his teeth, either...! But, he couldn't open his mouth to speak, the wind would blast him cruelly in the face and he'd yelp or growl. With a regretful swallow, he forced a smile and shook his head, though he was mentally crying.

"There it is, another silent answer! Ugh, stubborn dog! Let's see..." You thought, getting progressively frustrated with your Arcanine. You knew when he was hiding something from you, he tried to act all innocent, and when you caught him, that's when he acted all huffy. "It's obviously something wrong with his mouth. I have to get him to talk." You decided determinedly, nodding to yourself, you spoke up again.

"What's your favorite part about today?" You asked him, with a little grin, feeling clever. He had to have a verbal answer to this question!

But, no. A shrug was all he answered, and he looked away, lowering his billowing tail. Either you were really chatty and curious about his thoughts today, or you were onto him. Not answering you made him feel guilty, and the second option made him feel...he didn't know. Helpless, weak? It was just a simple toothache, he reminded himself, you didn't need to worry about it.

But you were worried about him, and you were running out of patience. You didn't care if he got huffy anymore, something was wrong. "Arcanine, why are you being so quiet today?" You asked him, anger in your voice but obvious concern on your face. Arcanine took it for hurt, and it only made him feel even guiltier, but still even more determined to seem fine for you. Arcanine choked on an excuse, but he eventually found one...another shrug, and a mumbling answer of, "No reason." The air hit his teeth, and with a wince he forced to restrain, he shut his mouth. No, it was simply too windy out here, it was blowing right in his direction.

It was a verbal answer, but hardly satisfying to you. You had leaned in to hear his answer, and you caught the sight of him clamping his mouth shut. That only further confirmed your suspicions that it was something wrong with his mouth...maybe a toothache? "That would definitely be a little problem he wouldn't come to me for. Arcanine, come on!" You thought, balling your fists up. You stop walking suddenly, and he stops too, backing up to look at you with a tilted head.

"Arcanine...D-Do you love me?!" You blurt out, in desperation, expecting a verbal answer. Of course, you both knew that he did, but he always said it. With a reddened face, you look at him expectantly. He had a red face that was double the hue of your own, widened eyes, a fluffed up tail, and quite a nervous expression. "Yes, yes, yes! As fiercely as ever, _____...she knows I do. I know she does. Come on!" Arcanine thought to himself, nodding to you swiftly and repetitively, a desperately serious look in his eyes. You're angered even further by his stubborn silence, why wouldn't he speak and just let you help him?!

"Arcanine!" You yell at him, an angry pout on your red face and your eyes starting to tear up. This really alarms him, and his eyes widen even more, and he finally opens his mouth. He didn't care about the pain anymore, and he stepped up towards you. "Yes! Yes, I do!" Arcanine told you, passionately grabbing your arms-- but, as if on purpose, a gust of wind blew and struck him. His hands flew off of your arms and clasp over his mouth, where he yelps a muffled but still loud, "Grrr, ouch!"

You gasp and point at him, a triumphant look in your eyes as you frown at the Arcanine. "Aha! Arcanine!" You scold him, and he puts his hands on his head and turns around in anger...and also to get that wind on his back and not on his face. "Okay, look, _____-- it's just my tooth! Not a big deal at all! I can take care of it myself, it barely even hurts. I'll just brush it more!" Arcanine huffed, crossing his arms and averting his eyes. You stand there for a moment, firmly and mad, but you can't stay too angry at him. After all, you know why he acts this way.

With a smile now, a more gentle one, you walked around to face him and put a hand gently on the side of his face. "Arcanine...let me help you." You tell him, and he still can't look at you. "I don't need help." Arcanine muttered, his tail bristling. A mad blush was on his face, and you giggled at his stubbornness, for once. It was frustrating sometimes...but other times, it was pretty cute. You thought for a moment, and then had another idea. "Okay. The next time I can't reach something, I won't ask you. You know that really tall shelf in our house, right by the fast wooden ceiling fan? I won't get you-- I'll just use that old ladder and get it myself." You say simply, putting your hands out nonchalantly. Arcanine suddenly looks at you with protectiveness, brows furrowed. "Y-You can't do that! Do you know how rickety that ladder is? That fan is extremely dangerous, too, it could hit you!" Arcanine tells you seriously with a frown, but you shrug with a tiny smile. "I don't need help." You tell him, and Arcanine growls. "Yes, you do!"

You chuckle at him and roll your eyes. "Arcanine, everyone needs help sometimes. It doesn't matter how big it is-- it doesn't matter if you're having trouble tying your shoes or reaching something, helping is a way to show someone you care about them. It's really important with humans, too. You've helped me for so long, you've shown all this time, human or not, how much you care. Let me show you how much I care, Arcanine, please." You beg him quietly, even clasping your hands together, that too cute look in your eyes that he couldn't possibly ever say no to.

Arcanine's expression softened after a moment of looking at you, and your eyes lit up with hope. And at that, Arcanine let out a defeated sigh, and hung his head. That was a response that you didn't need a word to understand! You laughed happily, and Arcanine let himself smile a little smile, rubbing the back of his neck. "Okay, okay. I'm done with this stubbornness...I care about you far too much, ____." he told you gently, and you blush and smile back at him. "Thank you!" You tell him with a bright sigh of relief, and he grabs your hand softly. "You're welcome...now, can you...h-help me with this?" Arcanine asked you, opening his mouth wide and pointing to a certain tooth. He looked pretty funny, and you couldn't help but chuckle at him, and he shuts his mouth and growls in his defense. "H-Hey, are you going to help me or not?" He grumbled to you, but with a grin, and you nod. "Of course." You purr, and you lean forward and kiss him, closing your eyes and after a moment of surprise, Arcanine shuts his eyes too, and relaxes.

Once you both pull away, Arcanine and you smile at each other. "That's all the help I'll need." Arcanine told you sweetly, pecking you once more. Your heart skips a beat at this, but that wasn't it for him. With a cute little grin, you put his head. "Oh, Arcanine, that's not all."

Arcanine blushes hard, and looks at you curiously, but skeptically. "W-What?"

You laugh. "We have to go to the dentist too." You tell him simply, starting to walk back in the direction that you two came from. Arcanine jumps at the word...as brave as he was, he remembers the first time he went to a human dentist. It was awful! The squealing drills, the glaring faces of the people hovering over you, the leather straps they use to strap you down...or, perhaps, that was just with him. Either way, he scrambled back up to you, with a scared puppy face.

"N-No, _____, please! Not the dentist!" He begged, and you laugh evilly.

"Nope, we have to. I care about you, but I can't personally fix a cavity, so they'll have to do it! To Arcanine, with love, your trainer." You joke, and Arcanine whimpered.

"What about that steakhouse?" He suggested desperately, and you give him a sharp, "No!"

"O-Or we can just go home?"

"I thought you were done with your stubbornness?"

"Well, you always have to brush your teeth before going to the dentist, you know. A-And you have to make an appointment!"

You give Arcanine a look. He might not have been done with all of his stubbornness, but it seemed like he was done with his brave, toughness...for now. He blinks at you, and you sigh...with a smile.

"...Stubborn dog."
